Heston Blumenthal at Home: Classic Home Cooking, by Britain's Most Creative Chef

As we have promised you in our Lemon Tart Recipe, here is the review of one of our favorite cookbooks - Heston Blumenthal at Home.

Until now, home cooking has remained radically out of touch with the technological developments that characterize the rest of modern life. This is the book to prove that science can dramatically improve the way we eat. Having spent years refining his analytical and imaginative approach at the Fat Duck restaurant, Heston Blumenthal is uniquely qualified to bring the benefits of science to the domestic kitchen.

Home Cooking Revolution

Although it is already a 10-year-old book, Heston Blumenthal at Home, is still a modern book with a lot to teach. The first part of the book maps the new techniques in fifteen sections, including: taste and flavor; stocks and infusing; brining, curing, marinating, and macerating; and sections on proper care of meat, fish, pasta, and many other dishes. In the second part, there are 150 specially chosen recipes, including The ultimate cheese toastie and Heston's famous Triple-cooked chips.

Heston's instructions are precise and easy to follow, with lots of helpful tips, and each chapter is introduced with an explanation of Heston's approach. With meticulous precision, he explains what the most effective techniques are and why they work.

Although everything in this book is explained to the maximum detail, it is far from being a book accessible to everyone. As you can see from the next picture, some of the recipes are quite laborious and sometimes difficult to execute, for less experienced cooks. By this, we don't mean that all less experienced cooks won't like this book, what we mean is that this book has some very challenging recipes that could be very difficult to replicate for people that are not used to cook.

Designed for Foodies and Food Geeks

Heston at Home is an ingeniously designed book for cooks who want to know how food works, and who are excited about adopting an unconventional approach that will revolutionize the experience of cooking at home. Heston is well known for his scientific approach to food, and this is exactly what you will find here. This is not the first book that talks about sous-vide or dry ice, but it is one of the first books that make these nerdy things suitable for home cooks.

The reason why we love this book so much is because it makes us question things we took for granted. The first time we tasted the Lemon Tart Recipe in this book changed forever the idea of what a lemon tart is for us. And this did not just happen once. Recipes like Banana and Bacon Cookies or the Bacon and Egg Ice-Cream will make you question yourself what is actually possible to achieve with the ingredients that you are used to using every day.

Heston Blumenthal at Home gained a prominent place in our book collection thanks to the small details that transform some of the simplest recipes in this book into authentic mouth-watering feasts.
