Let’s Make Some Ice Cream

In this week equipment review, we bring you something unusual for this time of the year. We really don’t know why but at thecookingworld.com we all love to eat ice cream in winter. Probably there is something wrong with us – lets us know if we are not alone in this one! Due to this crazy preference, we decide to review one of our must use ice cream equipment, the KitchenAid ice cream maker.

Ice cream makers have been around for a long time, and nowadays you find a big range of options on the market. From the more traditional manual ice cream maker to the super high-tech one. Unfortunately choosing the right equipment is not an easy task. You have to pain attention to the capacity, the time it takes to achieve the desired consistency, if it has a built-in freezer and a lot more details.

For us, there is nothing worse than putting a spoon of ice cream in our mouth and feel huge ice particles. This happens when your ice cream takes to long to freeze. Selecting the right type ice cream maker for your needs will have a huge impact on your final result.

So to help you in this decision we decide to start a new series of reviews about ice cream makers, so you can make your perfect ice cream at home.

Deeper Loof At  KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker

As we said in the review of KitchenAid Stand Mixer this equipment as a very number of attachments that allows you to take a simple baking tool in an indispensable kitchen appliance. One of our favorites attachments is the ice cream maker, this bowl will allow you to make incredible ice creams without breaking the bank.

With some previous preparation and a little patience, you can have an incredible ice cream or frozen yogurt in less than an hour. With a capacity of 2 quarts (1.9 litters), the KitchenAid ice cream will produce sufficient ice cream for a medium-size family. Beside it great capacity another thing we love in this equipment is the consistency of the ice cream. If you really chill your bowl, you will create an ice cream with a thick soft texture. If you prefer harder ice creams don’t hurry, you just need to put your ice cream mixture in the freezer for a couple of hours before you put it on the ice cream maker.

Freezing times

After 10 minutes: thin milkshake consistency
After 20 minutes: soft serve consistency

* Note that this time will be affected by the temperature of your mixture

Prep Time

If you want to achieve perfect results with this equipment you will to planning before you start making your ice cream. First and most important, is to properly freeze your bowl, at least 15 hours before you make the ice cream.  The colder the bowl, the faster your ice cream will freeze, with will result in much smoother ice cream. In addition, many of the recipes in the manual suggest chilling the ingredients for at least eight hours. So if you want to serve your dessert in a Sunday lunch you should start the process in the day before.

The prep time is probably the only thing we do not like in this attachment, besides that is incredible. It works in both models of KitchenAid, artisan and professional and the splashguard that is included in the bowls models feats perfectly on the ice cream maker. Witch prevent messes and gives you the ability to add ingredients directly to the mix.

Finally, the last thing we really like in this attachment is how easy it is to clean. You cant put the paddle in the dishwasher and lightly scrub the freezer bowl with a non-abrasive sponge.
