What Is the Cook-It-All

Do you know the feeling of using a product for the first time and know that you will use it forever, or until it breaks? Yes? This is one of those products, and the best part is that it’s not easy to break it. The Cook-It-All is a product that combines the utility of a cast iron Camp Dutch Oven with a griddle, grill pan, wok, skillet, and more for cooking over live fire or coal briquettes.

With only two pieces of cast iron, the Cook-It-All offers five configurations for endless possibilities of campfire cuisine. We have been using it for almost every day for the past two weeks and there was nothing we couldn’t cook. From pizzas to chilis, from steaks to burgers or even to cobblers and crumblers, there is nothing that you can’t cook with this equipment.

Even if you don’t know what to cook, you can take a look at the small guidebook that comes inside the box, to get some inspiration to start cooking.

Why The Outdoor?

For us, cooking outdoors is by far one of the most rewarding ways of cooking. We love to gather our family and friends around the campfire to share good food and memories. There is nothing better than join all the people you love and set off for nature adventure. We know that some times going outdoors can take some work, with all the things you have to take, but things are about to change.

When Lodge announced they were launching a new concept for campfire cooking, we knew that we have to try it. The Cook-It-All does exactly what the name suggest, it can cook everything. The idea behind the design is actually very simple, two pieces of cast iron that give you endless possibilities for your campfire cuisine.

Right after we open the box of the Cook-It-All we knew we would love this equipment. We are really enjoying cooking with this unit because it really works as intended. One of the two cast iron pieces works as a wok/skillet or even as a lid for the pizza oven, and the other one as a grill or griddle.

Managing The Fire

Using this equipment could not be easier, you simply need to figure out your fire management. You can use wood, lump charcoal or charcoal briquettes as a fuel source. Of course, you can also use gas, but it will ruin all the fun.

To achieve the best results possible with the Cook-It-All you have to place it just in the right spot of your campfire. If you place it directly over hot coals, it will heat up too fast, and you will burn your food. To test if the coals are at the right temperature, carefully hold your hand about 5 inches (12 cm) over the coals. If your hand gets hot right away, the coals are too hot. If you can hold your hand there for about 6-8 seconds, you’re good to go.

Another solution is to elevate the iron above the coals, so it’s farther from the heat. The Lodge Fire & Cook Stand is perfect for this!

The Perfect Size

The size of the Cook-It-All is another thing that we really like. Its whopping 14 inches wide, is enough to feed a hungry crowd of campers.

At first, we thought it would be too big for a small family or a weekend for two, but after the first few uses, we realized that we were wrong. With this equipment, you can make the perfect breakfast for a small family or bake a pizza just for you and your loved one.

The 30.9 pounds (14 kg) of the Cook-It-All makes it quite heavy equipment, but if we take into consideration all the things it can do, and all the equipment it would take to do the same thing, we realize it’s not that heavy. And the two included handles, make it easy to move from the fire to the table. They simply loop into the holes on the sides of each pan. So there is no problem with moving it around.

How to Clean The Lodge Cook-It-All?

Cleaning this equipment is as easy as cooking on it! You can divide the cleaning process of the Cook-It-All into three steps:

Step 1 Wash: Wash your Cook-It-All by hand with hot water. You can use a small amount of mild detergent.
Step 2 Dry: Dry your Cook-It-All thoroughly with paper or cloth towels.
Step 3 Oil: While the cookware is warm, rub a very light layer of cooking oil or our seasoning spray onto the surface.

If you take good care of the Cook-It-All it will last you a lifetime! This is another reason that we also love cast iron, especially from Lodge. With good care, these products can be passed from generation to generation.
