The Ooni Fyra is one of the most recent products from the leading pizza oven brand Ooni. This new model is very easy to assemble and use, which is great for beginners who are interested in an entry-level pizza oven.
Once unboxed, the pizza oven was assembled in minutes, with only a few items to attach on, and no extra tools needed. As we said at the beginning of this review, this model doesn’t use logs or gas, instead, it uses wood pellets that are fed through a hopper into the oven, so once lit, there are no complications of managing the flames, or how to keep it going. One of the things that stands out in this oven is the compact design that makes it possible for one person to carry it around.
The Ooni Fyra is designed so anyone can create quality pizza at home. Like the previous Ooni Models, this pizza oven is meant for outdoor use only. It blends nicely in any setting, and because it’s portable, you can take it anywhere you go. This makes for a nice cookout in your backyard among family and friends or a fun way to spice up any beach getaway! You can literally use this pizza oven anywhere as long as it’s outdoors.
If we compare the Ooni Fyra, with the previous models like the Ooni Koda we can see that the overall design doesn't change much. This new model maintained the shape of the classic Ooni pizza oven, and the trademark foldable legs of Ooni ovens, although it has been made longer to create more air circulation between the oven and the tabletop.
The big difference in this new model is the addition of two chimneys, one in the front of the oven which helps in circulating the air inside the oven, and a second and smaller chimney at its back which is the pellet hopper.
Besides the two chimneys, the Ooni Fyra comes with a door that helps maintain the temperature inside the oven. The door is very helpful and it does not get in the way when it's time to cook. It was designed with a hook, that can simply be hang it at the bottom of the opening of the oven. The handle is glass-reinforced so even if the door is in contact with the heat inside the oven, you can still hold the handle that is cool-to-touch.
The door also has about an inch of opening just beside the handle. It functions as a peephole so you can see if the flames inside are going without even opening the door.
Although we are used to Ooni ovens we are very impressed by the performance of the Ooni Fyra. This oven can go up to 932°F (500°C) in just 15 minutes with only wood pellets as fuel. This is only possible thanks to its efficient design, and to the main chimney that pulls the heat from the back to the front of the oven. The small interior and the improved insulation are also two good contributes to the incredible performance of this unit.
The Ooni Fyra is designed to be a very small oven, but do not get fooled by the size as it produces more power than your average indoor ovens. Efficiency is a big plus in this oven.
To light the oven, you simply remove the grate from the back of the oven, fill with pellets, and use a firelighter to get the pellets started. To keep a consistent temperature through cooking don't forget to keep filling up the fuel hopper with pellets. We were filling it up about every 15 to 20 minutes, which is plenty of time to cook about 3-4 small pizzas.
