For this week Cookbook Review we decide to bring you something new. A book dedicated to delicious baked goods that will delight any pie lover. Sister Pie Cookbook is what we have saved for you this week! This first and amazing cookbook and in our opinion one of the best cookbooks of 2018 is from the acclaimed pastry chef Lisa Ludwinski
Sister Pie is an amazing little corner pie shop run by Lisa Ludwinski and her band of sister bakers that are helping make Detroit sweeter one slice at a time. More than selling pies, this bakery has a huge impact on its community. No one leaves without a slice! Those who don’t have money in their pockets can simply cash in a prepaid slice from the “pie it forward” clothesline strung across the window. All the ingredients are seasonal and come from local farmers within 50 miles of Detroit. A true community bakery!
“Sister Pie aims to celebrate the seasons through pie; to provide consistently delicious, thoughtful, and inventive food; to foster a welcoming environment for employees and customers through transparency, community engagement, and education.”Lisa Ludwinski
Lisa Ludwinski, who honed her baking skills at Milk Bar and Four and Twenty Blackbirds in New York before opening her bakery in Detroit, has filled Sister Pie Cookbook with 45 thrilling pie recipes, like blueberry-plum balsamic, toasted-marshmallow butterscotch and malted lime. All these recipes are meticulously detailed witch make them very easy to follow. And in addition to this, all the recipes focus on seasonal ingredients in new and unexpected combinations.
If you think this book is all about pies you are wrong! This cookbook also contains 30 recipes for equally adventurous baked goods, peanut butter-smoked paprika cookies, rhubarb blondies and much more.
The only downside of this book is the lack of some pictures or visual for the recipes, specifically the ones that are not conventional. There are some recipes, where the pictures are redundant, but when reading recipes that are creative and original from Sister Pie, it would be very useful to have images to make a direct comparison.
In the end, Sister Pie Cookbook is an homage to Motor City ingenuity and all-American spirit. Illustrated throughout with 75 drool-worthy photos and Ludwinski’s charming line illustrations, and infused with her plucky, punny style, bakers and bakery lovers won’t be able to resist this book.
Sister Pie is an amazing cookbook which will leave everyone wanting to go to the kitchen to try the incredible pie recipes of Lisa. This cookbook is definitely of the best cookbooks of 2018, and one of our all-time favorites.
