After many weeks since our last video game cookbook review, we decide that is time to back to this series. So is this week cookbook review, we bring you the Fallout Cookbook.
Based on the irradiated delicacies of the world of Bethesda Entertainment’s Fallout, this Vault-Tec–approved cookbook provides fans of the award-winning series with recipes inspired by their favorite Fallout foods.
After we start looking closely to this book, we rapidly understand that this is a real Fallout cookbook! Scattered throughout the book, you will find endless references to the franchise series. This book is divided into easy to read sections that include basics, appetizers, soups and stews, sides, mains, dessert, and drinks. It’s written from the perspective of a vault dweller who lives within a nuclear bunker. As a result, the recipes can easily be cooked and recreated by anyone. With over 70 recipes there’s definitely a meal, snack or dessert for everyone.
Another thing that we really liked in this cookbook is the attention to detail. The recipes include stat bonuses and references to various wasteland ingredients. Vault-Tech entries are written with the same delightfully deranged humor they are in the games, and the wastelander’s snarky comments and disturbing substitutions make the recipes as entertaining to read as they are informative.
The range of recipes is impressive and covers a wide spectrum of American cuisine. Meaty mains, calorie-laden desserts and a surprising number of drinks are all included. There is also space for some vegetarian options, which was a surprise. While there are some traditional meals in the book, there are others with the Fallout twist. Whether you want to whip up your very own Nuka-Cola float or even chow down on some heartier options like braised Deathclaw steak, this cookbook has you covered.
In Fallout cookbook, there has been a clear effort to immerse the title in the world of its gaming inspiration. Although the effort the relationship between the recipes and the Fallout universe is mostly superficial. The book is beautifully presented with an exceptional layout that helps to bring all these interesting recipes to life. Like in all cookbooks from Victoria Rosenthal, this one has just the right amount of information in order to create all these tasty meals that pay homage to the video game.
If you’re a fan of the game Fallout franchise and love to cook, the Fallout Cookbook is a must-have title. It has recipes for cooks of all skill levels, and its casual reading is just as enjoyable as cooking.
