In this week equipment review, we continue our search for the best countertop appliances we can find on the market. We are back with one of our favorite brands, KitchenAid, and with one of their best countertop equipment the KitchenAid Digital Convection Oven.
The KitchenAid Digital Convection Oven gives you the ability to enjoy full-size oven performance on your kitchen counter. With the KitchenAid 12″ digital 1800 watt countertop oven and with is multiple memory settings you will achieve amazing results, including perfect roasts and perfectly cook pizzas.
This KitchenAid convection oven is a top end model that is comparable to the Breville and Cuisinart. Before we even start testing this oven the first thing that stands out is the range of cooking functions. There are 9 functions ranging from bake, pizza, asado roast, broils, cookie, bagel, keep warm and reheat. This is excluding the convection feature which is also available and could speed up your cooking by up to 30%. In this mode, hot air will circulate faster and more evenly so that the outer layer of the food will brown better and taste crispier.
This KitchenAid model it’s easy to use because it combines an LCD display screen with two control knobs. With the top knob, you select the cooking function while the bottom knob is for setting the time and temperature. Both these features are adjustable in 1 minute and 5°F increments respectively. As a matter of convenience, you can also convert the temperature from °F to °C.
One of the features that separate this oven from the competition is the roast function. Only a few top models include these functions as a cooking mode like the Breville BOV800XL. The pre-set time and temperature is also a plus giving you the ability to use this unit for different cooking functions.
When compared with a regular oven the results are very similar, you still get delicious food with this countertop oven. If you have a small family a unit like the KitchenAid convection oven could be a good substitute for your regular oven. The food does not dry out and toasts are nicely done on both sides without the need to flip them.
Another aspect we like in this oven is how quiet it is. When operating the fan doesn’t make weird noises as some toaster ovens do. The build quality of this unit is great as in any KitchenAid equipment. The only thing we do not like is the lack of light inside the oven, some times you will have to open the oven door to see the progress of your food.
