After reviewing All ABout Cake and Milk Bar Life it is time to Momofuku Milk Bar. For us, there is no better way to end this special week, dedicated to Christina Tosi, with this fantastic and inspiring cookbook.
Similarly to what happens in the other two books, Momofuku Milk Bar, shares the recipes of Christina Tosi’s fantastic desserts! Along with the compelling narrative of the unlikely beginnings of this quirky bakery’s success. It all started one day when Momofuku founder David Chang asked Christina to make a dessert for dinner that night. Just like that, the pastry program at Momofuku began.
For us, this is our favorite Christina Tosi’s cookbook. All the desserts that we love most from Milk Bar are in this book. The famous and iconic crack pie is in this book. The compost cookie, a chunky chocolate-chip cookie studded with crunchy salty pretzels and coffee grounds is also present. And the list goes on with the cereal milk ice cream or even the layer cakes.
With all the recipes for the bakery’s most beloved desserts, along with ones for savory baked goods that take a page from Chang’s Asian-flavored cuisine, such as Kimchi Croissants with Blue Cheese, Momofuku Milk Bar makes baking irresistible off-beat treats at home both foolproof and fun.
At this point, we probably already make all the recipes in this book. And we love them all! One of our favorite characteristic in this cookbook is that you can read it well cover to cover. It’s a story of Tosi’s inspiring career journey, with awesome recipes sprinkled in between. As a result, you basically have two books in one. First, a cookbook with amazing recipes and second, a book with incredible stories.
Just before we give you our final thought we need to tell you something. If you already search online for a review about this cookbook, you probably encounter many negatives reviews. Of course, we all have different opinions, but some reviews do not make any sense. If you find negatives reviews because the recipes are too complicated or require special ingredients that cost money? What do you expect?! If you really want to be able to make the authentic desserts from Milk Bar, you should follow Christina’s indications. Even if it means you have to buy a $12 roll of acetate and some fancy cake flour.
Finally, to end our review, we only can say that Momofuku Milk Bar is an incredible masterpiece of one of the best pastry chefs in the world!
Momofuku Milk Bar is an amazing cookbook with great recipes and stories of one of the best pastry chefs in the world. A cookbook that you will want to use and abuse - a must buy!
